10/3/09 Foley Battles Throughout, Comes Away With A 28-21 Loss
Bishop Foley got into a hole early in the game going down 14-0 late in the 2nd quarter. Then with Clarenceville driving the Foley defense came up with a big play for the Ventures. Clarenceville fumbled in the back field and Andrew Shango picked up the loose ball and went 65yds for Foley's first score of the night. For the night the defense was very tough, they were led by Isaac Latif and Andrew Shango with 7 tackles apiece, Jimmy Moffitt also made 6 tackles. Andrew Shango would also carry the ball 16 times for 75yds in the game.
In the third quarter Clarenceville would score first but Foley would again answer. This time on a nice drive that ended with a Brad Schalk 3 yd TD run. In the 4th quarter Clarenceville would again score first and again Foley would answer. This drive was highlighted by several nice runs by Senior tailback David Leffler. Lefty would also finish the drive with TD run of his own. For the game Leffler would gain 70yds on 8 carries with 1 TD.
Then Foley would get the break they needed as Brad Schalk executed a perfect onside kick and Michael Rossman came away with the ball. Brad Schalk had a great all around game for Foley. He scored on a rushing touchdown and threw for 170yds, including 2 passes for 31 yds to Jeff Schalk. Foley would get another 1st down to get inside their 40 yrd line but the drive stalled and Clarenceville would hold on for the win.
The loss takes Foley to 2-4, the Ventures will next play on Saturday Oct. 10th against Detroit Loyola. The game will be held at University of Detroit Jesuit, game time 1:00pm
